| Vertebral Subluxations
are displacements of the spinal bones (vertebrae) that can cause
endangering stress to your spinal cord and nervous system. These
subluxations are often due to poor sleeping habits, poor posture,
strenuous exercise, injuries, auto accidents, sports, slips or falls, and
the birthing process itself. Chiropractic adjustments are very helpful in
correcting these subluxations and restoring optimal health.
Altered
structure (curves) of the spinal column can create altered function,
resulting in lowered resistance (immunity) to disease. The vertebral
subluxation often goes thru various stages of degeneration unless the
body is stabilized through chiropractic care. With proper attention,
the regeneration process can be initiated, resulting in increased health,
restored chemical balance, and
emotional well-being.
Your
spine provides the structural framework for your entire body while
yet protecting its most sensitive and
important structure: the nervous system. Even so, the spine is designed
to allow for tremendous mobility. It is this mobility that allows the spine to become
vulnerable to vertebral subluxations. |
 |
When
subluxation occurs, such as during normal or abnormal movement - a
physical stress is applied to the vertebra which causes the vertebra
to assume an abnormal position, and this puts pressure on the nerves.
The red nerve
shown on the left is pressured by the vertebral subluxation.
|
|
This nerve pressure results in a weakness to the body.
 | Subluxations weaken cells, tissues,
and organs.
 | This weakened
structure is more prone to subluxations when any stress is
applied (physical, chemical, or emotional). |
|
A
subluxation resulting in pressure on the spinal cord (or brain stem),
such as shown above, has been proven to interfere with nerve
transmission to various organs and tissues of the body, and in so
doing become the cause
of many health problems. When pain or health problems are caused by
the nerve blockage of a vertebral subluxation, only by proper treatment of
the subluxation will the body be able to function normally. See our Nerve
and Symptoms page for more information on common symptoms. |

WHAT
CAUSES VERTEBRAL SUBLUXATIONS |
 |
Any
physical, chemical, or emotional stress or trauma that is greater than our
internal resistance may cause subluxations.
 |
Physical
stress can range from whiplash trauma to sitting at your desk day
after day with your head turned to the same side. The physical
stress of birth itself can
exert 40-60 lbs. of pressure on the spine. |
 |
Chemical
stress is anything from ingesting too much sugar and too
many preservatives to
breathing environmental pollutants. This upsets the body's chemistry,
which in turn disrupts the tone of the muscles and ligaments, resulting in
subluxations. |
 |
Mental
stress is something everyone has experienced in tense and emotional situations, or
even in everyday living. Mental stress causes
the ligaments and muscles to tighten resulting in subluxations. |
